A Family Affair: Meet the Applebaums

As the result of a dream project that went awry 3 years previous the Applebaum family were having real kitchen nightmares. Hannah had been cooking in a room with an open leaking ceiling and broken floor tiles!

Kelly was faced with a tough project but an even more challenging family dynamic to over come. The renovation was being project managed by the three twenty-something Applebaum daughters who didn’t have the same sense of urgency as Hannah (or Kelly) and were at odds with John’s tight budget. Cue bickering!

In the end Kelly helped the family join forces to create a kitchen that would could easily have graced the pages of the latest design magazines. Let’s hear from Hannah Applebaum about what it was like working with Kelly and helping to transform the kitchen into a glam space for the whole family to enjoy.

What made you want to apply to take part in Superior Interiors?

Redesigning the kitchen was always on the agenda. We had seen some of Kelly’s designs which we loved and based our ideas on but every time we started the building work there was always an issue or something of a higher priority. One day we had a knock on the door asking if we would like to enter. It was a blessing in disguise.

What room did Kelly and the SI team work on for you?

They worked on the kitchen and dining area.

What is Kelly like to work with?

She is lovely, very caring and understanding and really wanted to achieve the best for us.

Kelly said she wanted to work with people who really needed her help. What has Kelly helped you with the most?

She helped us achieve the kitchen of our dreams.

What have you learned about yourself through the design process?

That I needed the help of an interior designer… the ideas were in my head but I needed Kelly to put them into action

What was the scariest part of the process for you?

Seeing my old reliable kitchen ripped out…!! We hold many fond memories in the old kitchen and no matter the state, it was always a happy and entertaining place.

What did you think at the final reveal?

I was over the moon.

Are you keen to make over other parts of your home now or was this it for you?

We are working our way through the whole house.

What piece of advice would you give people considering their own home refurbishments?

Always include emergency funds in the budget.

Can you sum up your experience with Kelly and Superior interiors in one word for us?
