Summer is here and I’m feeling inspired by the blue skies and brilliant sunshine. One of my favourite things to do to unwind is to get away from the city and fly to a beach, turn off my phone and ipad and truly relax. Continue reading
I have been in Mauritius since last week in preparation for a special event to announce the concept for the new project I am working on LUX* Island Resorts. While I’ve been traveling a lot for my projects and am set to head to China next week the balance between business and pleasure is certainly different on LUX* Resorts…an not just because I’m in Mauritius!
The reason this has been such a passion project for me is that it is so different to anything I’ve done and anything I have seen in the world of luxury holidays. When CEO Paul Jones, who was instrumental in launching the One&Only brand, and his management team approached me I new instantly that this would be a resort with a real difference. I have been working on this project for a while now but I have been keeping it quite close to my chest because it is so revolutionary.
I think a lot of us have pre-conceived notions about what makes a ‘luxury resort’ like must-have labels, fussy cuisine and unfortunately stuffy décor. I don’t know about you but my idea of luxury does not include any of those things!
You may have seen the images we shared last week or the videos on YouTube which I feel really speak to just how different this brand really is. We talk about ‘Island Light’ and ‘scenes’ in the videos and they are central to what makes this project so very different.
LUX* is all about unpretentiously celebrating island life and offering luxury with a light touch but that doesn’t scrimp on service. We want to break out of the ordinary and help you get back to really living and celebrating life’s moments. That’s what the ‘scenes’ are about…they help spark unexpected moments. From freshly-roasted organic coffee, retro-styled ice-cream parlours, libraries of cool magazines, on-the-beach film screenings, inter-guest games, integrated wellness & spa programmes, art shows, pop-up dining, secret honesty bars, and world-beating sun beds no details is too small or too big to helping create unique moments and special memories. And with a staff of over 3,000 across 5 resorts dedicated to looking at the details you can be certain that these experiences will be nothing short of top notch.
Clear rather than cluttered, free rather than formal, spontaneous rather than predictable, LUX* Island Resorts are simpler and fresher, lightening, brightening and heightening the island resort concept. I’m thrilled to be working with Paul to help rethink what luxury really means.
This weekend marked the simultaneously opening of resorts in Mauritius, Ile de la Reunion and the Maldives. Work will continue into 2012 but I’m thrilled that the project is well underway and we can now share the unique concept of LUX* with everyone.
Stay tuned to my Facebook for a special clip from the party which I’ll be sharing this week.
P.S> you might think ‘LUX*’ is short for luxury but actually it’s taken from Latin word for light…bit of an ‘unexpected’ surprise there right?
