People have asked me over the years ‘What has gotten you to where you are today?’ It’s not an easy question to answer but I’m reminded of a conversation with my life coach David Zelman years ago where he said to me ‘Success is not a day job’.
The people I find most inspiring seems to reinforce this idea as well. Karl Lagerfeld, Zaha Hadid, Picasso, Marilyn Monroe, Christian Liaigre and Mark Newson are at the top of my ‘inspiration’ list and each of them dedicated their lives to following their passion as a profession. I am constantly intrigued to see where there passion will take them next…well not Picasso and Marilyn of course, but even with these two I find something new each time I look at their work.
How wonderful it is to be able to pursue your passion as a profession but equally how daunting to keep innovating and providing a unique point of view. By looking at the continued drive of Lagerfeld, Hadid, Liaigre and Newson I am inspired to keep striving and challenging myself. All the while remembering David’s mantra that success is not a day job.
So the short answer to what has gotten me to where I am is motivation, focus, passion, determination and bloody hard work!
